| Dark Star (1973) | Imdb | AMG | So you wanted to know where Aliens got it's ideas from? Well.. This film shows the answer. I remember watching this at University - so you can tell how old the film is. And now having seen it again it does look very dated. There are no extra's apart from the trailer and some stills on the DVD. The sound is not all that good. BUT this film is for nostalgia freaks. And don't forget to watch the scene with the Alien monster in the lift shaft! This is a low budget story of 4 astronauts played by Brian Narelle as Doolittle, Cal Kuniholm as Boiler, Dre Pahich as Talby and Dan O'Bannon as Pinback who go around blowing up unstable planets. Unfortunately, due to a mishap, Bomb decides that it should blow up even though it is still onboard the ship. And even the dead captain cannot help. |
| Demolition Man (1993) | Imdb | AMG | There are no extra's on this DVD version (Region 2). (But the Region 1 version does have some so you would be better off getting that version.) Some good humour along with the action in this film. Sylvester Stallone stars as John Spartan, Sandra Bullock stars as Lenina Huxley and Wesley Snipes stars as Simon Phoenix. John Spartan is brought out of suspended animation is order to pursue his old adversary Simon Phoenix, who originally caused John to be incarcerated in the Prison for a crime he didn't commit, and who has now escaped into a society which no longer has criminals and which is ill-equiped to handle Simon Phoenix as he embarks on a murderous crime spree. | DR Who:The Five Doctors (1983) | Imdb | AMG | I like Dr Who so I was pleased to see 'The Five Doctors' again - this time on DVD. The sound was excellent in this new copy but there were no extra's included. Go to the Dr Who Restoration Team website to see how they created this DVD. |
| DR Who: The Remembrance of the Daleks (1988) | Imdb | AMG | This is my favourite Dalek Dr Who episode. Sylvester McCoy wasn't my favourite Doctor but Sophie Aldred was one of my two favourite companions. I have always remembered Sophie battering Daleks with a Baseball Bat. This is a very good transfer to DVD and there is a good commentary to go with it - even though this isn't mentioned on the box cover! Go to the Dr Who Restoration Team web site to see how they created this DVD. |
| DR Who: The Tomb of The Cybermen (1967) | Imdb | AMG | I can remember as a child watching Dr Who - hiding behind the couch when it got too frightening. So this purchase was a desire to see again what the early episodes were truly like. And I never remembered just how much the special effects sucked. And the behaviour of the Doctor (played by Patrick Troughton ) "Don't tell him how to get the Cybermen awake!".. too late.. "Look out behind you!".. too late.. And the way that every time the good guy had a gun they had to put it down on a table and then turn round so they sat with their back to it.. And don't talk to me about the Cybermen - they are not men of steel - rather men of tissue paper.. And I didn't know you could kill them by pushing them over. No need for Gold in this episode!
