| Blade (1998) | Imdb | AMG | Adapted from the comic strip, Wesley Snipes stars as Blade, a half-man, half-vampire who avenges his mother's death - With lots of Martial arts, high-tech gadgetry. Just like James Bond in fact - apart from the large amounts of Blood which this film liberally sprinkles around as Wesley Snipes uses his trusty sword. This film also stars Kris Kristofferson and Steven Dorff as an excellent bad guy or in this case dead guy. An excellent DVD with lots of extra's - mainly commentaries. Army of immortals vs Wesley Snipes. No contest. A DVD in the 'New Line Platinum series' so it's good. Now all I need is the time to watch it again. | Amazon.com

| Bladerunner (1982) | Imdb | AMG | One of my favourite films. No extra's on the DVD at all. Directed by Ridley Scott the original novel was written by Philip K Dick who wrote it under the title "Do Androids dream of electric sheep?". There has been an enormous amount of discussion as to the status of Rick Deckard played by Harrison Ford . (Is Deckard a Replicant?) Watch the movie and you decide. The film questions what we believe makes us human. Thankfully the original ending which was used when the film was first shown has been changed to this superior version - and we have lost the 'dumbing down' talk over which was originally added to the soundtrack. | Amazon.com

| Deep Blue Sea (1999) | Imdb | AMG | I liked the film. I have to say that right up front because I know someone who tells me that this is the Worst film Ever! If you like a sharkfest, waiting for the cast to be eaten, and you never know when it is going to happen.. then you will probably like it as well. Directed by Renny Harlin and starring Saffron Burrows and Samuel L Jackson amongst others. I can't talk about the plot since that would spoil it for you. Robinson Family, Destroy all Systems" and "Never Fear, Smith is here" Yes, It's Lost in Space.. if you saw the original B&W series then you know who the baddie is. And an EXCELLENT one it is in the shape of Gary Oldman. Adventure , Sex , Aliens , Cute furry animals this film has it all. OK I lied about the Sex. (well there is Heather Graham in the stretch tight costume as designed by Seven of One). Get the R1 version with all the synopses of the original series. This film is set in the near future with Earth's Resources nearly used up. A gate has been built in Earth's orbit but another needs to be built near the destination planet in order to make travel between them possible. The Robinson family ( William Hurt , Mimi Rogers , Heather Graham , Lacey Chabert and Jack Johnson ) as well as a Flight Officer Matt LeBlanc , have been chosen to fly there cryogenically frozen. Dr Smith has been paid to sabotage the ship but is himself betrayed by his paymasters and ends up stranded on the ship as well. |

A useful extra on the DVD is the explanation of how they did all the filming, slowing down the action with cameras etc. The film stars Keanu Reeves as Neo, Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. A computer hacker - Neo is told that all life on Earth is just a computer simulation run by computers - The Matrix. A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt down his wife's killer. Guy Pearce plays Leonard Shelby, Joe Pantoliano plays John Edward 'Teddy' Gammell. The film shows the action in flashbacks (each one earlier than the previous) and this is truly the only way this film can work. This DVD allows you to play the film in chronological order - if you do this then you must ensure that you see the film it is meant to be seen first. | Amazon.com

| Pleasantville (1998) | Imdb | AMG | Very funny film - yes - TV was like that in the 50's - so I'm told. Excellent colour in this partly B&W film. A Brother ( Tobey Maguire ) and Sister ( Reese Witherspoon ) are sucked into a B&W TV show. As they start interacting with the characters in the show then they start making changes and when they freely choose to do something different then some colour is introduced into their world. This is a typical anime film - i.e. NOT for children. This version has literal subtitles (NOT dubtitles)! | Shrek (2001) | Imdb | AMG | Very funny film. A talking donkey and an ogre rescue the princess (who can Kick her way out of trouble!) This is a parody of many other fairytales and you really feel that the characters in the film have feelings and emotions. Very good performances by the actors ( Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as the Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona and John Lithgow as Lord Farquaad of Duloc). Walt Disney had a fit when they saw the film. Can you get a better recommendation than that? CAP Review | Amazon.com

| X-Men (2000) | Imdb | AMG | Very good film. I was pleased to get this on DVD - although I had already seen it at the cinema since there was so much that I found that I had forgotten. In addition there are some extra scenes that were not in the original film and these can be viewed by using seemless branching - i.e. so that they are added back into the film so you can see how they would have looked if they had been included at the correct point in the storyline..They also show the actual scene that appeared as well. The film shows Mutants being brought together to safety under the tutelage of Patrick Stewart playing Professor X/Professor Charles Francis Xavier with Ian McKellen playing Magneto/Erik Magnus Lehnsherr intent on destroying society so that mutants rule. Helping Professor X are Famke Janssen as Dr. Jean Grey, James Marsden as Cyclops/Scott Summers, Halle Berry as Storm/Ororo Munroe, Anna Paquin as Rogue/Marie D'Ancanto and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine/Logan.
